If so, here's what you should know.

Researchers at the University of New Haven analyzed the data traffic between the device and the WhatsApp server.

Detailed metadata is captured!

It turned out that the Facebook subsidiary collects detailed metadata. The phone number, call duration and time are recorded and forwarded to WhatsApp.

A few months ago there was harsh criticism from Jens Herforth (blogger), who claims to have found unconfirmed evidence that WhatsApp records entire conversations.

The company denies this and emphasizes that only an internal test version included this option to test the voice quality.

In the end, it remains to be seen whether WhatsApp will one day offer/carry out encryption of conversations, because then the communication between user and server would be invisible and any further discussion about it would be obsolete.
