Do you know right away what brand or type your Windows laptop or PC is? If it is a Dell device, you should urgently check which one it is. Because 56 models are currently struggling with a serious safety problem.

Dell brand devices have errors in the BIOS

As the manufacturer of the devices itself explains, the focus is on the security vulnerability CVE-2022-34398, which the manufacturer rated as high. Using this vulnerability, cybercriminals could download malware onto your PC. From then on, the device would be out of your control.

, the security gap is serious because it is located directly in the BIOS (short for Basic Input / Output System ), i.e. in the place that is responsible for the basic control of all PCs and also the actual operating system - in in the case of Windows - starts, i.e. ensures that the PC boots up.

Virus protection is irrelevant

Because the security gap occurred in the BIOS, it doesn't matter whether the user antivirus protection from Windows 10 , 11 or older installed. Unfortunately, other methods of protection against attackers on the computer are also ineffective. Because if the malware gets into the Dell BIOS, it can access all possible components of your device.

The following models of Windows laptops are affected

If you own one of these laptops, you could well be affected:

Install update immediately

If your device name appears in this list, you should download the patch DSA-2022-339 for affected users as quickly as possible. This was provided by the manufacturer itself.

So if your laptop or PC requires an update, it should be installed immediately and not postponed. It cannot currently be ruled out that the discovered security gaps have not already been exploited or are currently being actively exploited.
