The internet never forgets.

This is proven again by an image that was published on Facebook on November 12, 2017.

It shows a man with a naked torso and some tattoos, as well as a small dog that supposedly has a vodka bottle in its mouth. With the following wording: “Please share this so that the bastard can be found”. Over 11,000 users shared the status post, which comes from German-speaking countries.
However, as is so often the case, without questioning it. We were unable to clarify where the picture that was published here came from. What we do know is that this case dates back to 2012. We reported on this topic five years ago.

Fact check:

The incident did not occur in German-speaking countries, but in Canada. Just as in German-speaking countries, there was massive incitement against this man in Canada.

Police (Barrie, Ontario-Canada) released a press release on August 13, 2012 , announcing that when the photo went viral, the man pictured turned himself in to the police.
The result of the investigation was that the man did not force the puppy to drink vodka. The puppy was playing with the bottle at the time and the man just wanted to take the bottle from the animal, which was not immediately possible because the dog was pulling on the bottle (which you can see in the picture). The police assume or assumed that this picture was taken completely out of context and published elsewhere, so that there was an outcry of “Find the guy” with comments like “Bad things should happen to him too”.

After the complete investigation, this case was closed.

At that time, however, the regional police continued to investigate the case in a different direction, namely in the direction of the suspects who made threats against the tattooed man.
