At this point we would like to warn against the tricks of pickpockets, especially with a view to the holiday season. These tricksters are not disorganized individuals, but rather tightly organized crime!

This is how pickpockets work:

teams

They always appear in teams and travel from city to city. Cities that are close to the motorway are particularly affected. A team usually consists of 2-6 people who arrive in a vehicle and drive along their route (here A2 motorway). A full-time job – leave in the morning, return to Dortmund in the evening.

vehicles

The vehicles are usually loaned to the perpetrators by acquaintances who have not yet been criminally charged. Or they are taken to the locations in vans. They always park on side streets in pedestrian zones, rarely in parking garages. The driver does not take part in the actions, he observes his vehicle from a distance and acts as the “rear guard” as a security guard.

Variant 1: Retail stores!

The band primarily hits retail stores. To do this, one or even two teams enter the store and investigate the situation. Entering the store happens at a time delay - there is nothing to indicate that both teams belong together. You spread out in different corners or floors. Once a victim has been identified (older lady, open or discarded bag, etc.), the team suddenly becomes interested in items laid out on hangers, without paying attention to size or price. A blouse or jacket on the hanger then serves as a privacy screen. The perpetrators can always be identified by the fact that they simply grab the hanger with the goods and hold it up conspicuously. Now one team member approaches the target person to cover the subsequent pickpocketing, while the other team member strikes with lightning speed. Depending on the situation, numerous attempts are required. Once the crime has been committed, the team member with the wallet moves away from the target person, while the other team member stays close to the victim. In more than 90% of cases, the wallet (now lightened with money and/or credit cards) remains in the store among the items on display. The team leaves the store at a later date - and moves on to the next store. Needless to say, there is always a "security guard" positioned in front of the stores, who monitors the smooth exit of the store and follows the team at a greater distance to see if they are being followed?

Variant 2: Fundraiser!

Another variant, also highly successful, nationwide: it is collected for a (non-existent) donation organization. The teams use clipboards with signature lists on them. Passers-by (mainly old people) are now actively approached and pretended to be deaf. If the person addressed signs the list of signatures, he or she becomes a victim because the clipboard serves as a privacy screen for pickpocketing. Often committed by the 2nd team member, who works under the clipboard in the victim's pockets while entering the list. Here, too, the team is protected by security guards who are in the immediate vicinity of the actual perpetrators and who protect the procedure and, if necessary, warn.

Did I already mention that professionally organized gangs of pickpockets always carry around EUR 200 in cash?

No wonder, because if the perpetrators are traveling from abroad, a security deposit would have to be paid immediately in cash (usually around EUR 200) if they were caught. Otherwise there would be a risk of police custody. When things get tight, the perpetrators *schwubbs* simply pay the security deposit and are then released again to drive to the next town...

Organized crime

In the uncovered network from Dortmund it was proven that the - still unknown - backers in Dortmund registered around 200-300 (!) women from Bulgaria and/or Romania at just one (!) residential address. They were “imported” like cattle after they were promised kitchen jobs in the Federal Republic of Germany. It was only when the city of Dortmund no longer accepted the address as a residential address (and the women were therefore considered “OFW” [Without a fixed address = grounds for detention!) that the structure was restructured. The procedure is still the same.

In addition, the Saxony police published the following information on July 6th:

■ Dancing trick
Where many people celebrate, the perpetrators prefer to target drunken passers-by.
They appear to seek physical contact by dancing and then steal from their victims.
■ Soccer trick
Alone or in a team, a perpetrator dribbles a soccer ball close to his victim - play like Ronaldo! – performs his trick while an accomplice or himself plunders the bag.

■ Dirty trick
The victim is “accidentally” dirty.
During the verbose cleaning attempt that followed, the perpetrator stole the wallet. ■ Pushing trick
The thieves expect their victim to turn around if they get uncomfortably close.
Then they steal something from the shoulder bag.
■ City map trick
Teams are usually at work here. While the “stranger” asks for directions and the victim gets his bearings, the accomplice loots the bag.

How can I avoid being robbed?

Do not store your cell phone or wallet in your back pocket or in an outside pocket of your jacket or backpack.
Better: Wear close to the body under a layer of clothing. Ward off spontaneous physical contact and draw attention to yourself loudly to alert other passers-by to the situation.
If you have been robbed, please report it to the police immediately.
