Cottbus - During a bachelor party on Saturday evening, May 20, 2017, a group of around a dozen young men ran through Cottbus city center with a handcart.

According to the current investigation, they met several young Syrian men on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße. There was verbal abuse between the two groups, which subsequently escalated into a physical argument. Five German men between the ages of 28 and 33 suffered cuts and stab wounds to the face and upper body. They were taken to hospital for treatment.

The injuries sustained are not life-threatening. A man from the group of German men called the police for help via an emergency call, and they arrived a short time later. The Syrians had already left. A criminal police investigation team was formed to clarify the events that occurred and their causes.
