A full advertising library on the Facebook page “Raise your hands weekend” leads to fake competitions at various zoos, animal parks and even amusement parks.

The nicer weather and these chances of winning should motivate all couch potatoes to go outside. What could be better than a visit to the zoo or amusement park with your loved ones. And all that for free?

Well, unfortunately there's nothing to win here!

Some of the zoos are already reacting with warnings for their visitors:

“Fake competitions are circulating in our name and also from other parks. We currently do not have a competition in the media, please do not take part. Your data is the only goal of this fake!” writes the Bad Pyrmont Zoo, , in relation to the competitions that were circulated by “Raise your hands weekend”.

What's behind it? – Data collector

If you click on the links that appear within the supposed competitions placed as advertisements, you will be taken to a page where you first have to answer a few harmless questions. You then have to enter your data (name, email address, date of birth, postal address and mobile phone number), but you receive this message:

Behind the alleged competitions is “Cheetah Hills Ltd.” – a shell company from Great Britain. By participating, you accept that organizers and sponsors can “contact you about offers from their respective business area” - via all contact channels that are possible with the data you have entered.

This list of sponsors is long, very long.
Companies that are active in credit, newspapers, gambling, insurance, astronomy, dating, health, etc. are listed here. By participating, you allow these companies to contact you by email, post or telephone. This will be a real spam fireworks display!

Conclusion

If you take part and think to yourself, “Oh, I’ll just give it a try, it won’t hurt anyone,” you’re encouraging more supposed competitions of this kind. Because data always brings money, and these sites will continue to exist in the future.

There's nothing to win here. The only winners are the data collectors and the third parties who receive your data.
