It's a little reminiscent of a revised version of Disney/Pixar's WALL·E, but the little robot is a food delivery person.

In a video on TikTok, a box-shaped robot can be seen rolling along sidewalks. And he has a job: His job is to deliver food from A to B.

“Postmates Robot in the wild”

The video of the robot during a delivery was published on TikTok under this title by the user “supersnacksupreme”.

So it is not a descendant of WALL·E, but rather the so-called “Serve” of Postmates. In the video, the all-electric food delivery driver drives up to 7469 Melrose Ave. in California.

“Serve”

“Serve” is the name of Postmates’ mechanical delivery driver. On their website they present the robot as an environmentally friendly food delivery person:

Why deliver a 2 pound burrito in a 2 ton car? Serve is ideal for transporting orders within the neighborhood. Serve has a 50 pound capacity and is fully electric. This reduces your carbon footprint and keeps your order and our air fresh.

One of Serve's goals is to reduce the number of vehicles on congested roads. In addition to a more environmentally friendly environment, Serve doesn't have to look for parking spaces or get stuck in traffic, which means fast delivery.

If you receive a delivery using “Serve”, you can open the robot’s box by entering your PIN code and remove the contents.

The video itself has provoked different reactions. Some consider such services to be “the future”, others are more critical:

“We have robots delivering food to people… and yet there are still people living on the streets, starving.”

This idea is demonstrated directly in the video, as the robot drives directly past a homeless person with its food.
