A 63-year-old from Vlotho in North Rhine-Westphalia, who was the victim of a call from a fake police officer, suffered a financial loss totaling 18,500 euros. In the case, a fake investigator - supposedly from the police's Soko 9, a department that doesn't exist anywhere except on television - had fraudulently deceived the woman.

The fraudster pretended to be investigating a robbery that took place in the neighborhood and in which only a few perpetrators were arrested. At the same time, the crook sets up a threatening scenario in which she claims that other perpetrators may be targeting the 63-year-old victim in the Herford district.

Scam: Keep money safe

What was special in this case was that when withdrawing sums of money that were supposed to bring the victim to safety, the fake police officer used the cell phone to instruct or accompany the lady in her actions. Such realistic instructions were given during the bank visit that the victim was always guided by the fraudster with appropriate explanations. In the end, we managed to ask the lady from Vlotho to throw several thousand euros out of the moving car in Bielefeld at the Erdsiek Westerfeldstrasse intersection . The caller kept the lady calling and demanding money for several days, believing that her cash should be secured.

Fraud exposed too late

Only after the last large sum of money did the lady contact the real local police and discover the fraud.

The police warn against these types of shock calls to the detriment of older people.
