A user sent us this message, which was supposedly sent by “Erste” (bank) (thanks at this point). This SMS informs you about a payment. Included is a link:

Screenshot of the SMS

“Payment to T BROWN will be made TODAY. If you have not done so immediately, visit: https://erste-sid-hilfe.com,” the message reads.

This message is worded insidiously. If you don't know about any payment to "T BROWN", you'll probably be quicker to go to the link to check.

Link leads to fake page

But be careful, the link in this SMS leads to a fake page. Even if the word “Erste” appears in the link, this is not a page from Erste Bank / Sparkasse. This is sparkasse.at .

The fake site features the logo of “George”, Erste Bank’s online banking service. The logos of Erste Bank and Sparkasse are also included at the end of the page. There are also some links listed, but none of them work, they just open the same page again.

The site also has a login window in which you should enter your user number.

Be careful, phishing!

If you enter your access data for “George”, Erste Bank’s online banking, here, they will end up directly in the hands of the fraudsters.

The message does not come from Erste Bank!

If you are in doubt as to whether such a message actually comes from your bank, you should not click on the links sent, but rather go to your bank's website directly via your browser.
