Does the email even mention one of your passwords? Do not worry! This email is fake. Don't allow yourself to be blackmailed and never transfer Bitcoins, warns our cooperation partner Watchlist Internet . But change your password immediately!

If a hacker contacted you

Concerned Watchlist Internet readers are currently reporting emails from a hacker to us. The alleged hacker writes in the email that he has infected your computer with malware and has been watching you for some time. He would have caught you watching porn and masturbating. The hacker allegedly filmed this with your webcam. He threatens to forward this video to all your contacts if you don't transfer Bitcoins. As “proof” that the hacker has access to your computer, he mentions one of your passwords in the email. Sometimes the email is even sent to you from your own email address - or so it seems. But there is a simple explanation for this. More on that later.

These blackmail emails are currently being sent completely randomly to numerous email addresses. You may also have received it in English, as it exists in different versions. Below are two examples:

Example 2:

Hello!
As you may have noticed, I sent you an email from your account.
This means I have full access to your account. I've been watching you for a few months now.
The fact is that you were infected with njrat through an adult website you visited.
If you're not familiar with it, I'll explain it to you.
Njrat gives me full access and control over your device.
That means I can see everything on your screen, turn on the camera and microphone, but you don't know about it.
I also have access to all your contacts and correspondence.
I made a video showing you pleasuring yourself on the left half of the screen and on the right half you see the video you watched.
With one click I can send this video to all your emails and social media contacts.
I can also post access to all your email correspondence and messengers that you use.
If you want to prevent this,
transfer the amount of 1200 USD to my Bitcoin address (if you don't know how to do this, write to Google: “Buy Bitcoin”).

My Bitcoin address (BTC Wallet) is: 1PC8xLnirc4rXnjCHEjhspUSquAMgtDRo

After receiving payment I will delete the video and you will never hear from me again.
I give you 48 hours to pay. I have a notification that reads this letter and the timer will work when you see this letter.
There is no point in filing a complaint anywhere because this email cannot be tracked like my Bitcoin address.
I don't make mistakes. If I discover that you have shared this message with someone else, the video will be shared immediately.
Best regards!

Why does the hacker have my password?

Your password was probably already known on the Internet before. This is because companies often experience data leaks. These security issues allow criminals to access email addresses, passwords and data stored there. These are then published on the Internet and used for fraud. So the hacker didn't infect your computer and track your clicks!

Email myself – how does it work?

The hacker gives the impression that he sent the extortion email from your email account. But this is not the case. The email header has been manipulated. You can even easily check this yourself. Check the “Sent folder” in your email program! You definitely won't find this email. Nevertheless: protect your accounts. You'll learn how to do this in the next section.

Protect accounts

If your correct password is mentioned in the email, you should act immediately.

  • Check and change all accounts with this password.
  • Assign good passwords and set a unique password for each account.
  • If possible, set up two-factor authentication.
  • Update your operating system and run a virus scan. You should do this regularly anyway.
  • Your accounts are no longer accessible? Contact the site operators. There is usually a separate reporting point or contact address for hacked accounts. If necessary, get free help from the Internet Ombudsman .

How to recognize fraudulent emails

  • Salutation: Are you only addressed with a hello or your email address? Then it is probably fake, because fraudulent emails are sent en masse and automatically to thousands of email addresses.
  • False Accusations: Are the Accusations True? Would it be possible to film you? Do you even have a webcam? Question strange emails carefully!
  • Lack of evidence: If the material in question actually existed, the blackmailers would most likely send it as evidence.
