Fake KfW website

A button then takes the person to the fake website, which contains many elements of the real KfW website. This means that further links (e.g. to the imprint) at the bottom of the website also lead to the real KfW pages.

However, if you compare the respective verification of the websites (SSL certificates can be accessed via the lock symbol), you can see that the fake is the provider “Cloudflare”, which is reputable but is often used by perpetrators to create a secure HTTP s connection . The real KfW website is certified by T-Systems International GmbH. The website address (marked red in our example “kfwfoerderprogramm-portal-start-id……com” [ID removed by us]) also differs from the real website address https://www.kfw.de/.

If you then click through the application conditions and declarations, you will land on a form that asks for personal and sensitive data (name, address, telephone, ID number, bank name).
Afterwards, after a small check of the data through the website, you can determine your funding amount and tick various boxes to acknowledge the conditions mentioned. With “When would we prefer to contact you by telephone?” you can finally secure your quota and hope for a call. This will be confirmed for the following days at the desired time.

We cannot currently say whether a call actually occurs in which further data is requested, which is then misused. However, the probability is there.

What to do when you get a call?

If such a call or contact is made (e.g. by email), please hang up/ignore the email.
Do not disclose any sensitive information about yourself. Do not allow yourself to be tricked into making a payment or providing any further bank details. It is also conceivable that fake emails that look like your bank will be sent to you. The bank was queried in a follow-up form on the phishing site. If you also receive such emails, inform your real bank and ignore the instructions in the email.
