The supermarket chain “Lidl” is apparently giving away “many cash gifts” on the occasion of Women’s Day on March 8th, as the message says. Do not click on the link. Criminals are trying to install malware on your device, warns our cooperation partner Watchlist Internet !

This is how the scam works!

The scammers hope that you will click on the link. Anyone who does this will end up on a fake Lidl website. There you supposedly have the opportunity to win 2,000 euros. To do this you have to answer four questions. You will then be taken to the actual competition. There you have to click on one of nine locked boxes. The box opens. Unfortunately, the first attempt isn't a win, the second one is a direct hit: you actually won the 2,000 euros. That's how it seems.

However, before you receive the money, you must forward the competition to “5 groups or 20 friends”. This is also the reason why you received the competition. In this way, criminals increase the reach of the fraud and appear more trustworthy because the competition comes from someone you know.

That's not all: If you have forwarded the competition, you will be asked to open an “application” for 30 seconds. Caution! malware behind it !

How to recognize the fraud!

  • Suitable internet address? You can already see the Internet address of the link in the message. This is fuelflare.cn. This has nothing to do with Lidl.
  • Redirects necessary? Will you only receive the prize if you forward the competition? This is a warning signal!
  • Download App? At the latest when you are asked to download an app (or open an “application”), your alarm bells should ring.
  • Provide account details? Some of these competitions lead to a subscription trap . In this case, entering credit card details is the alarm signal. Because: Why should you pay for a competition?

Have you installed the malware? Here we explain what you can do if your device has been infected with malware.
