The alleged offer for the ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) annual ticket is: “OBB offers a social program for everyone living in Austria in the form of a card with which you can travel for free for a year for just €3. Click on the link and answer five simple questions to receive your card.” (sic!)

Update July 4th, 2023: Another page “OBB Gifts” is currently advertising free ÖBB annual tickets. In the picture we see a “transport card” again. This time the annual ticket will even be available completely free of charge.

Traveling in Austria for just 3 euros for a year?

Sorry, we have to disappoint you at this point. In Austria there is the so-called “climate ticket” .
This costs €1,095 per year or €821 per year for young people, seniors and people with disabilities. There is no so-called social program for Austrians! The term “transport card” is also not used by ÖBB.

But what is the alleged offer all about? – If you click on the “More information” link, you will be taken to a page that has nothing to do with ÖBB, but is intended to give the impression that the ÖBB logo is used here, but the URL “bigtimefit.com” reveals that that we are not on the official website of the Federal Railways ( oebb.at ). This annual ticket will suddenly only cost 2 euros.

After completing the survey, we received information that we would receive the annual pass. 2 euros postage costs would be due:

Here you will be asked to provide your cell phone number, email address and name. If you then click on the button, you will be taken to the “payment page” where you should enter your credit card details. No other payment method is simply offered here.

And lo and behold: Here the amount changes again. This time it is 2.35 euros that will be charged.

Be careful, phishing!

What's happening here is that the credit card details you entered are being stolen!

The pages linked from the Facebook post have nothing to do with ÖBB. They are fake and give the illusion of an unrealistically cheap annual ticket in order to access personal and highly sensitive data. An annual pass or “transport pass” will never be sent. Here you lose your data (name, email address, telephone number, credit card number including expiry date and CVV code) to unknown people.

Conclusion

There is no ÖBB social program that enables an unrealistically cheap annual ticket.

If you naively think that it would at least be worth a try to “be able to travel through Austria for a whole year so cheaply”, you are losing personal and highly sensitive data to the fraudsters behind this fake offer.

The same scam was also spread for an alleged DB annual ticket for 1.95 euros. We reported HERE .
