The largest folk festival in the world begins in less than four weeks. After a two-year Corona break, Oktoberfest is a special occasion for many to celebrate this time. Table reservations in the festival tents are also in great demand this year.

However, the Bavarian consumer advice center warns against dubious offers. The high demand is being exploited and reservations are being resold over the Internet at exorbitant prices. At the beginning of July, the Munich Higher Regional Court assessed this business practice by an event agency as a misleading business activity (ref.: 6 U 7831/21). The reason for this: Many Oktoberfest hosts reserve the right in their general terms and conditions to only allow consumers into the tent who have purchased table reservations directly from them. Nevertheless, dubious reservation offers at exorbitant prices can still be found online.

“In order to actually gain entry to the festival tent with a valid table reservation, interested parties should book their reservations exclusively via the festival tent websites,” advises Tatjana Halm, lawyer at the Bavarian Consumer Center. She advises against buying on ticket exchanges: “The risk is high that entry into the tent will be refused despite an expensive reservation.”
