Google has released an unscheduled update for its Chrome browser! With this, Google is closing a security hole in the web browser that is currently under attack.

The update

The vulnerability, known as CVE-2022-4262, affects the JavaScript engine V8. Heise writes that because of a so-called type confusion, it is possible to slip malicious code into potential victims relatively easily. This happens, for example, via manipulated websites.

It currently seems as if it will take a few days to weeks until the automatic update for the Google browser is distributed. You should therefore start the update process yourself.

This is how you install the update

  • On Android and iOS, the Chrome app can be updated via the respective app stores.
  • On Windows and macOS, you first go to the “3-point menu” in the top right corner of the browser window, then to “ About Google Chrome ”. There you can see which version of the Chrome browser is installed and whether an update is available.
