The claim

An image distributed in December 2023 allegedly shows a Christmas edition of the satirical magazine “Titanic” with blood-smeared boots and Ukrainian flags.

Our conclusion

This front page is a fake and was not published by the Titanic.

The satirical magazine “Titanic” is known for its provocative cover images, but not everything published under the magazine’s name is real. A current example is the alleged cover of the Christmas 2023 edition that is circulating on social networks. The picture shows a room decorated for Christmas, but there are blood-smeared boots with Ukrainian flags hanging in it. A shocking image that raises questions: Did this drawing really appear on the “Titanic”?

Rumors/claims regarding the front page in question

Since Russia invaded Ukraine, many fake images have appeared on the Internet. An example of this is the alleged cover photo of “Titanic” with the title “We celebrate Christmas with Ukraine”. The fake is intended to give the impression that the magazine has chosen a tasteless portrayal of the Ukraine conflict.

Evaluation

This front page is clearly a fake. It does not correspond to the editorial line of “Titanic” and was not published by it.

The facts

A look at the magazine archive confirms that the cover photo is a fake. The real December 2023 issue of “Titanic” had the theme: “How we learn to deal better with bad news.” The editorial team of “Titanic” also confirmed to the German Press Agency that the picture was not theirs. This is not the first time that counterfeiters have tried to falsely associate the Titanic with the Ukraine war.

Conclusion

The spread of counterfeits, particularly in politically sensitive contexts, can have serious consequences. They can contribute to the spread of misinformation and aggravation of conflict. Therefore, it is important to verify such claims carefully.
