Twitter incurred the displeasure of many community members with its latest update in December. The reason for this is the newly introduced “View Counter”, which informs users how many people have viewed their tweets. While some users consider the new feature to be useful, others criticize its format and positioning. After ongoing protests, the online portal has now given in and published another update.

“We hear you”

“Many of you didn’t like that the view counts were displayed right at the beginning on the far left,” says a recent statement about the change from official Twitter support. We have seen the corresponding feedback and will take it seriously. “We hear you. View counts will now be visible on the right side of your tweets, right between the like and share icons,” explains the microblogging portal.

It remains to be seen whether the change will be well received by our own community. What is certain is that some users and experts remain skeptical and wonder what the new view count is supposed to achieve. “View counts show you the number of total views of your tweets. “So you can quickly see what reach you have achieved,” Twitter once again emphasizes the advantages of the new function in order to calm critical voices.

Musk is convincing

The fact that the microblogging service introduced the new view counts in December 2022 is said to be largely due to Twitter boss Elon Musk. He is apparently convinced that the prominent display of the overall views can increase the motivation of users to communicate and interact even more on the site. Twitter has tried to introduce a similar feature several times in recent years. So far, however, without any notable success.
