The claim

Apparently the WEF has a new logo: a swastika made of stylized flowers.

Our conclusion

The logo is real and comes from the 2022 APEC summit, but is not the direct logo of APEC. The resemblance to a swastika may well be intentional, as the swastika is a symbol of good luck in Asian countries. However, the WEF has nothing directly to do with APEC; Klaus Schwab was only a guest at the summit.

The wildest conspiracy myths are circulating about Klaus Schwab and the WEF: Supposedly microchip implants are planned for children ( No! ), Schwab wants to eliminate 4 billion “useless eaters” ( No! ) or the WEF is planning to enslave humanity with the “Great Reset " ( No! ). And now it is claimed that the WEF has a new logo: a swastika made of stylized flowers.

The claim

This sharepic is being distributed on social media (and on TikTok as a video):

The WEF founder Klaus Schwab can be seen in the upper half of the sharepic, with a logo in the background that vaguely looks like a swastika made of stylized flowers. The logo is shown in more detail in the lower half, next to it it says “APEC CEO Summit Thailand 2022”.

Below the two images it says: “ This is not a photomontage, but the actual new symbol of the World Economic Forum and its leader Klaus Schwab ”.

A relevant news site (archived HERE ) then also reported on the claim, but also reiterated that it was a WEF logo, without even remotely clarifying this or doing even a little research into it.

Only the first four words of the statement are correct

Because the pictures are really not photomontages: The picture above actually shows Klaus Schwab in front of the logo, the picture below also shows that logo even more clearly. However, the rest of the claim is absolutely false, as it is not even a WEF logo of any kind, nor is the WEF affiliated with APEC, to which the logo belongs, in any way.

The origin of the photo

The top photo is actually a still image. It comes from a YouTube video of a live broadcast on the CTGN station. Schwab can be seen there from minute 5:15.

Both in the logo in the sharepic and in the video it is quite clear that it is an APEC LOGO. So let's take a closer look at who or what APEC actually is.

The APEC and the logo

APEC ( A sia- P aci fic E conomic Cooperation , in German: Asia-Pacific Economic Community) is a regional economic forum with 21 members from the Asia-Pacific region. This forum aims to create greater prosperity for the people of the region through regional economic integration and growth.

The economic summit seen in the video above shows an open forum discussion at an APEC event held . On November 17, Klaus Schwab was a guest alongside the President of the Philippines and Robert E. Moritz, global chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers.

However, the WEF is neither an organizer nor a sponsor of the APEC summit (see HERE ).
There are also only three organizations overseeing APEC: the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council and the Secretariat of the Pacific Islands Forum (see HERE ). The WEF has no influence here either.

Now let's get to the logo, because it actually somehow resembles a swastika, and perhaps a certain similarity is even intentional. But this has a completely different reason, because surprise: the symbol existed long before Hitler!

However, this is not the direct logo of APEC, but only the logo of the APEC summit in 2022. The official logo of APEC, which can also be seen in the preview image of the YouTube video above, is a stylized woven bamboo basket.

The summit's logo, however, as explained in several articles (see HERE and HERE ), is a so-called Dok Loi pattern (Thai: ลายดอกลอย). This is a traditional Thai weaving pattern that is used, for example, in drawing or in basket and weaving art.

With a Google image search and the term you can find many of these patterns as pictures or braided.

And what if it is a swastika?

The resemblance to a swastika may be intentional, and that wouldn't be a bad thing. Quite apart from the fact that the symbol, which is also called the swastika or sun wheel, was mirrored by the Nazis (the Nazi symbol turns as a wheel to the right, the original symbol turns to the left), it has its roots in the Asian Buddhist and Hindu beliefs have a completely different meaning in different countries.

The swastika, which was first called the “swastika” by the Nazis, has been known there for 10,000 years and is considered a symbol of good luck . That's why it can be seen on many Buddha statues, often "right-handed", but it remains a symbol used by religions, and the misuse of the swastika by the Nazis doesn't change that.

Conclusion

The logo is real and comes from the 2022 APEC summit, but is not the direct logo of APEC. The resemblance to a swastika may well be intentional, as the swastika is a symbol of good luck in Asian countries. However, the WEF has nothing directly to do with APEC; Klaus Schwab was only a guest at the summit.
