It was announced in mid-July 2022 that WhatsApp would like to introduce a new function with which you can also share voice messages in status. These then remain audible to the contacts for a maximum of 24 hours, like any other status message. Until now, this was not possible and there was no one who could access the feature.

Language status for beta users

It is currently possible for at least some WhatsApp users to test out the new language status. According to WABetaInfo , if you have beta version 2.23.2.8 for Android installed on your device, with a bit of luck you could access the new feature.

So far, the voice status is only available in the Android version of WhatsApp, but after the ongoing tests in the beta version it will also be rolled out across the board and then logically also be used for iOS in the final implementation.

What does the new feature look like?

If the new voice status function is already active on a cell phone, then when creating a status message, in addition to the options for writing a small text or selecting a photo, a microphone symbol also appears. By clicking on this, it is possible to record a voice message lasting a maximum of 30 seconds, which can then be integrated into the status.

As with all other messages, this voice message remains available for 24 hours. At the moment, this audio can only be listened to by those contacts who can already use the new voice status feature on their device - i.e. who are other beta testers.

Accordingly, there is still a bit of waiting until all users can use the new feature.

Protective functions on WhatsApp already activated?

It was only shortly before the turn of the year that WhatsApp received further new functions that are intended to protect the privacy of users. For example, it is now possible to hide your online status and thus protect yourself from online services and other contacts who want to spy on you.

Because even if you had previously deactivated the last online timestamp, every contact could see when you were currently online on WhatsApp. With the new feature, this is no longer possible, and even more privacy should be made possible for each individual.
